OpenAI has introduced Images 2.6 in ChatGPT, Codex and its API. The release adds GIF creation and gives developers more control over image editing, including a way to mark the area they want changed.
The company says people can use GIFs for animated characters, reactions and product visuals. Its examples include a brand mascot for a campaign and a storyboard for exploring character movement before video production.
Developers get more editing controls
Image markup, which OpenAI says is already available in ChatGPT, now comes to the API. It lets teams point to a specific place in an image for an edit. The API also adds SVG exports for designs intended for websites, apps and print.
A new complexity setting controls how much planning the model puts into a request, according to OpenAI. The company describes image quality as a separate control for visual detail. Developers can choose between two API models, GPT-Image-2.6 Flare and GPT-Image-2.6 Sunburst.
OpenAI says Images 2.6 is available now in ChatGPT and Codex on desktop, mobile and web. Flare and Sunburst are also available through the API.
