Domain name registrar Identity Digital Inc. created a new company named Known Systems AI Inc. on September 22, 2026. This venture spins out of an artificial intelligence agent identity initiative that launched earlier in the year under the name Innovation Labs.
Innovation Labs previously released an open neural framework for accountable artificial intelligence identities called DNSid. The company describes DNSid as a birth certificate for artificial intelligence agents. The framework uses the Domain Name System, public key infrastructure, and an immutable blockchain ledger. This combination makes agent accountability interoperable across organizational boundaries.
DNSid gives artificial intelligence agents a persistent identity tied directly to their creator company. This link ensures that the creator entity remains accountable for the actions of the agent. The system allows agents to interact with third party platforms without needing to establish separate trusted relationships with every single platform.
Artificial intelligence agents are growing more capable and pervasive across the web. Organizations and individuals now use these autonomous agents to initiate financial transactions and move information with minimal human involvement. Traditional identity and access management tools can authenticate agents within specific environments. However, these older tools fail to establish accountability as agents move across different systems.
Establishing bilateral trust relationships at an enterprise scale presents a major challenge. Many businesses operate thousands of artificial intelligence agents simultaneously. Maintaining direct trust relationships for every agent with multiple third parties is not feasible. Identity Digital argued that the market requires a shared accountability layer that functions across all platforms and organizations.
Known operates as an independent company to advance DNSid as an open standard for agent identification. The firm also builds tools that organizations require to scale accountability. Known submitted an Internet Draft to the Internet Engineering Task Force. It collaborates with the Linux Foundation via the Agentic AI Foundation and LF Decentralized Trust. The company also reports several enterprise customers and relationships with policymakers in the United States government.
Identity Digital Chief Executive Akram Atallah noted that ties to the former parent company held back the progress of Known. Atallah stated that keeping the work inside Identity Digital limited its potential. He added that agent accountability must work across companies and ecosystems. Known now possesses the independence required to work across the market and secure broad participation.
Identity Digital remains closely connected to Known as a major investor and holds a seat on the board of directors. Ethos Capital, the primary owner of Identity Digital, also supports Known. Allie Kline, a partner at Ethos, serves as the interim chief executive officer of Known while leading the search for a permanent leader.
Allie Kline emphasized that artificial intelligence agents will not scale without accountability. She noted that accountability requires a consistent method to identify responsible parties as agents transact and exchange information across boundaries. Kline stated that this transparency remains essential to building trust for broader adoption.
Known will continue building its market presence and developing tools for enterprise customers. The company will also advance its standards work with the Internet Engineering Task Force and the Linux Foundation.
