Google has brought its conversational Gemini assistant to Google Maps on Apple CarPlay. US drivers can use it today to get hands-free help while navigating.
Drivers can start a conversation by tapping the Gemini icon in Google Maps on their car’s infotainment display. They can ask multi-step questions, such as where to visit, then ask Gemini for directions to a suggested place while avoiding toll roads.
Google says the CarPlay update also lets drivers report traffic disruptions through conversation. They can ask about stops and places while on the road.
Android Auto received Gemini last year
Gemini came to Android Auto last year. Its arrival on CarPlay follows almost 12 months later.

Google announced Personal Intelligence features yesterday for Gemini in Android Auto and cars with Google built-in. Those features let the assistant access user information from Gmail, Calendar, Maps, Photos, YouTube and Search. Google has not said whether CarPlay users will receive the personalization update.
Google says the CarPlay rollout is happening globally too, though it has not given specific regional availability details.
