Google has introduced Gemini for government services in preview. The offering adds government-specific skills and connections to agency systems to its Gemini agent, which can plan and carry out tasks. Google says federal, state and local agencies can use it for work such as researching rules, reviewing records and processing applications.
The skills apply an agency’s procedures and relevant statutes, regulations and guidance to specific tasks, according to Google. The company says Gemini can answer policy questions using sources such as the Code of Federal Regulations and the Federal Register, with citations reviewers can check. It can also flag missing information in application documents and check grant expenses against award terms.
Connectors link Gemini to agency systems
Google says secure connectors let Gemini query systems where their data already sits, without migrating it. The announced connections include Oracle E-Business Suite, PeopleSoft, Salesforce, ServiceNow, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 and SharePoint, along with federal regulatory sources. Access follows each agency’s existing identity and permission controls, the company says.
For public records requests, Google says Gemini can find potentially responsive files and organize them for review. Its partner SZNS Solutions has built agents for records discovery and document redaction. The redaction agent proposes changes labeled by statutory exemption; a reviewer must confirm them before it exports redacted copies.

Agencies retain review and security controls
Google says a central control plane lets security teams set policy across agents, while a person approves consequential steps. Gemini for government services can be deployed using Google Cloud’s Assured Workloads FedRAMP High Data Boundary, which enforces United States data residency and personnel controls. The company says agency data and model outputs remain private to the organization and are not used to train or fine-tune Google’s foundation models without permission.
Google says it developed the offering alongside agency leaders and is working with select federal and state agencies, including the State of Missouri and the United States Department of Health and Human Services. Gemini for government services is available in preview now.
