Google is bringing Personal Intelligence to Gemini in cars. The feature lets Gemini in Android Auto use information from a driver’s Google apps to answer personal requests. Support for cars with Google built-in is also planned.

Gemini can draw on Gmail, Calendar, Maps, Photos, YouTube, and Search. Google says a driver heading to the airport could ask about a flight. Gemini can find the flight details in a Gmail confirmation and use them to check its status.

Drivers can also ask Gemini to “take me to my doctor’s appointment” instead of entering directions themselves. Another example from Google is asking it to “find the car wash from the photo I took last week and navigate there.”

Several carmakers support Google built-in

Google brought Gemini to Android Auto last year. It then rolled the assistant out to cars with Google built-in in April. Ford, GM, Honda, Nissan, Volvo, and Polestar are among the carmakers that have shipped newer vehicles with Google built-in, which supports native Android apps.

The app connections require drivers to enable the Personal Intelligence setting. Google also says Gemini will share personalized responses only when a phone is connected to the car.

“If you don’t use Personal Intelligence, everything in the car still works: You can use navigation, listen to music, make calls, and ask questions, but the answers won’t be tailored to you,” Google says.
