Meta launched its new AI application called Muse on Tuesday in the United States. The release helped the tech giant win over Wall Street and sparked discussions on X among industry players. Early numbers from market intelligence firm Sensor Tower provide insight into how popular the application is among U.S. consumers.

Sensor Tower data shows that Muse achieved more than 83,000 downloads on iOS in the United States. The application is currently limited to the U.S. market. This milestone pushed Muse into the No. 2 position on the App Store top charts.

However, the debut trails behind other recent Meta app launches. Threads recorded over 4.3 million U.S. downloads on its first day. The Meta AI app drew 108,000 U.S. downloads during its debut.

ChatGPT experienced a faster rollout during its early days. In less than a week, ChatGPT topped half a million U.S. installs. That rate translates to an average of roughly 83,300 daily downloads at launch, a milestone that took Muse twice as long to reach.

Despite the slower start, Muse is still climbing the iOS charts. The app moved from the fourth position on the U.S. App Store on Wednesday to the No. 2 spot.

The Android version is performing differently. Muse reached only No. 338 in the Productivity category on Google Play. Android download numbers are not yet available. These estimates also exclude web and WhatsApp usage.

Muse represents a major bet for Meta in agentic AI. The company views agents that complete tasks for people as the future of consumer artificial intelligence. Meta compares this strategic shift to its rebranding from Facebook to pursue the metaverse.

Meta faces direct competition in the consumer agentic space. Google offers Gemini Spark, and Anthropic produces Claude Cowork. For everyday users, Meta competes closely with Instinct, an AI agent operating over text messages that holds a $2.5 billion valuation.

Instinct recently secured $350 million and is shipping features rapidly. The rival agent added user email addresses and introduced a social network feature that lets agents talk to each other to coordinate plans. Instinct also integrated Stripe and 1Password alongside location-sharing capabilities.

Timing may have influenced the debut numbers for Muse. The app arrived shortly after Meta agreed to an $18 billion multistate settlement regarding social media consumer harms. Meta has previously faced multiple legal hits, data scandals, and Federal Trade Commission fines over privacy violations.

Industry watchers continue to monitor these early figures as consumer AI adoption evolves. The next known step involves observing how Meta scales Muse across additional platforms and markets beyond the United States.
