Google Makes Free 1080p AI Video Generation Available Inside Google Vids

Google removed the paywall from its AI video tools on September 23. Anyone with a Google account can now generate full HD videos for free inside Google Vids. Google Vids is the company browser-based video editor.

The system runs on Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash. This AI model turns text prompts, photos, audio, or existing clips into brand-new video footage. High-definition video generation previously required a paid subscription.

Users can access the tool by visiting vids.new and signing in. Testers found the creation process straightforward, though testing produced 720p resolution videos in both horizontal and vertical orientations.

Google also added advanced editing controls previously locked behind paid software. Scene extension lets users lengthen a clip while keeping lighting, characters, and settings consistent.

Users can set exact scene durations so clips align with scripts or voiceovers. The platform also lets creators upscale older, lower-resolution AI clips up to 1080p instead of regenerating them entirely.

Every video produced by the tool carries SynthID. This Google DeepMind watermark remains invisible to the eye but readable by machines. Anyone can check for AI origins using the separate SynthID Detector tool.

Generation is fast. Testers generated a short video in less than 30 seconds, which beats usual speeds on Google Flow.

Personal Google accounts receive a standard allowance. Paid AI plans unlock more generation capacity. Workspace Business and Enterprise subscribers receive larger generation pools and team admin controls.

Gemini Omni launched in May 2026 as a paid feature for Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers. Free access was previously limited to YouTube Shorts and YouTube Create.

OpenAI shut down its consumer Sora 2 app and website in April 2026. Its developer API went dark on the same day Google launched its free Vids rollout.

Google also reduced API rates for its Veo 3.1 Lite model to $0.05 per second. This undercuts developer-facing rivals while Chinese competitors like Kling and Hunyuan Video maintain pricing pressure.

Google plans to release a companion feature named Gemini 3.8 Flash-Lite text-to-speech. This next addition will turn written scripts into voiceover narration in more than 100 languages.
