Google is launching an early experiment on the Pixel 11. The new feature lets users delegate local business calls to Gemini.
Users can have the artificial intelligence make reservations. The tool can check if a product is in stock. It can also reschedule appointments.
Google explained the functionality in a statement. You do not even need to start the call to have Gemini handle it for you.
Instead of dialing yourself, you just tell Gemini to call on your behalf. This works using the Gemini app on your Pixel.
Gemini will call the business and introduce itself. It will navigate automated phone menus and wait on hold. The AI will then handle the conversation with the person on the other end.
Users remain in control at all times during the process. The interface provides a live transcript view. Users also have the ability to take over the conversation at any point.
Google announced a similar Call for me feature last year. That previous tool had its AI call local businesses to ask about product availability. However, it lacked an option for users to take over those phone calls.
Competition in this space is growing. Meta is also working on a similar automated phone call feature for its Muse AI agent. Those calls reportedly might be made by a human behind the scenes.
Google is rolling out its new AI calling feature starting today. It arrives as an early preview for Gemini paid subscribers. These users must be enrolled in the Phone by Google Public Beta on Pixel 11 in the US.
