Anthropic has signed an agreement to rent approximately $45 billion in artificial intelligence compute from Nscale. A source familiar with the agreement confirmed the arrangement to TechCrunch, which was initially reported by Bloomberg.
Nscale was founded in 2024 and has previously secured agreements with Microsoft. The company will provide Anthropic with computing power utilizing Nvidia Vera Rubin chips. The Vera Rubin system integrates six different chips operating together.
The computing capacity is scheduled to begin powering Anthropic services in late 2027. The six-year agreement relies on computing power sourced from Nscale's flagship data center located in West Virginia.
This arrangement represents the newest addition to a series of computing partnerships for Anthropic. Over the preceding eight months, Anthropic has actively expanded its computing capacity to compete against rivals like OpenAI.
Earlier in August, Anthropic finalized a $10 billion agreement with AI cloud startup Volta. Founded in January, Volta will supply a six-year allocation of cloud computing power originating from a data center in Norway.
In July, Anthropic completed a $5 billion compute-related arrangement with AMD. In May, the lab disclosed a major computing contract with SpaceX, which is operated by Elon Musk. That SpaceX agreement utilizes two data centers and delivers $1.25 billion in monthly capacity.
In April, Anthropic broadened its collaboration with Amazon to secure an additional 5 gigawatts of compute. That same month, the company extended its partnerships with Google and Broadcom to acquire more power capacity.
Anthropic participates in a wider industry trend of securing extensive AI horsepower. Major competitors including Google, OpenAI, and Meta are pursuing similar infrastructure strategies.
The computing capacity from Nscale is expected to start powering the AI lab's services in late 2027.
