China AI Lab Manus Raises Over $500 Million in First Funding After Meta Split
Chinese AI lab Manus raised over $500 million in its first funding round since Chinese authorities blocked Meta from acquiring the startup.
Company
Manus is a Chinese artificial intelligence lab that operates as an independent entity following a blocked acquisition. The company recently secured over 500 million dollars in its first funding round since Chinese regulators forced the unwinding of a two billion dollar acquisition deal by Meta. Led by Boyu Capital and IDG Capital, the funding round also includes participation from Tencent, HSG, and ZhenFund. Chinese authorities originally ordered the dissolution of the Meta acquisition in April 2026 due to concerns over talent retention, after previously barring the founders of Manus from leaving the country during a regulatory review. On the product front, the company recently launched Manus 2.0. This updated version introduces new capabilities including video editing, multiplayer game hosting, and remote phone control. Additionally, Manus 2.0 features the Cascade agent harness, which reduces token usage by 23.2 percent and lowers testing costs by 32 percent. The lab now focuses on building out its platform and expanding its technological efficiencies independently of foreign corporate ownership.
