San Francisco police arrested a 20-year-old man Friday. He's suspected of throwing a Molotov cocktail at Sam Altman's house. Altman is the CEO of OpenAI.

The San Francisco Standard first reported the incident. Surveillance cameras caught the attack. It happened early Friday morning, before 7AM ET, at Altman's home in the Russian Hill neighborhood.

Later that morning, the same suspect allegedly made threats at OpenAI's offices in Mission Bay. Police arrested him there around 9AM ET. A police post on X described someone "threatening to burn down the building" on the 1400 block of 3rd street. OpenAI's headquarters are at 1455 3rd Street.

OpenAI's spokesperson, Jamie Radice, confirmed the incident. "Thankfully, no one was hurt," she said. Radice added, "We deeply appreciate how quickly SFPD responded and the support from the city in helping keep our employees safe. The individual is in custody, and we’re assisting law enforcement with their investigation.”

The San Francisco Police Department is still investigating. Charges are pending. They did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

This isn't the first time Altman and OpenAI have faced security concerns. The rapid rise of AI has led to intense public debate. Some worry about its potential misuse. Others fear its impact on jobs. Altman has been a prominent voice in these discussions, advocating for responsible AI development and regulation. He has testified before Congress and met with world leaders to discuss the technology's implications.

The motive for the attack is still unclear. It's unknown if it was directly related to Altman's work at OpenAI. The investigation is ongoing. More details will likely emerge as the police continue their work.
