Daily artificial intelligence usage among adults in the United States more than doubled in a span of six months. Research institute Epoch AI partnered with polling firm Ipsos to conduct two representative surveys tracking this adoption.

The data shows that the proportion of adults using AI at least six out of seven days grew from eight percent to 19 percent. This shift highlights a movement toward routine interaction with these tools.

Conversely, the segment of occasional users decreased during the same period. The percentage of people who used AI only one day per week dropped from 17 percent to 10 percent.

The initial survey took place in March 2026 with 2,017 participants. A follow-up survey in August 2026 included 1,016 participants. Both sample groups were randomly selected and weighted to accurately reflect the broader U.S. population.

Epoch AI notes that the results from the two polls are not fully comparable. Survey methodology changed between the two polling periods.

In the March study, researchers asked participants about their overall AI usage frequency. In the August study, researchers asked participants about individual services separately and applied the highest reported frequency.

Researchers caution that this shift in questioning could actually cause the August figures to underestimate actual usage. Even with this methodological difference, the metrics demonstrate a clear upward trend in habitual use.

The findings point to a growing reliance on artificial intelligence for daily tasks among American consumers. Regular engagement appears to be replacing sporadic testing of the technology.

Epoch AI will continue to monitor adoption rates through future representative surveys.
