Amazon is funding a nuclear energy plant in Indiana that is targeting 960 megawatts of carbon-free energy. The company says it is the second project in its collaboration with X-energy to expand nuclear power in the United States.
The target is just under one gigawatt for the Indiana project. Amazon has not provided a construction date or said when the plant would begin operating.
Amazon says the project could create more than 1,000 construction jobs and more than 100 permanent roles. The company presents both figures as potential outcomes for the Indiana project.

The investment is part of Amazon's wider spending on carbon-free energy. The company says it has more than 700 projects globally and is investing in over 40 gigawatts of carbon-free energy.
Amazon says that amount is enough to power more than 12.1 million homes in the United States. Its collaboration with X-energy aims to add more than 5 gigawatts of nuclear energy in the United States by 2039.
