Tencent Brings AI Agent to WeChat, Giving 1 Billion Users Access to ClawBot

Tencent has launched ClawBot, a tool that integrates the open-source OpenClaw AI agent directly into WeChat as a contact. With over 1 billion monthly active users, WeChat is now one of the largest platforms to offer a built-in AI agent experience.

ClawBot works like any other WeChat contact. Users send it commands through the chat interface and receive AI-powered responses within the app. The underlying OpenClaw agent can automate tasks like file transfers, email handling, and other workflows.

The move puts Tencent alongside other Chinese tech giants racing to deploy AI agents at scale. Alibaba launched Wukong for enterprise workflows, and Baidu has released agents built on top of the OpenClaw platform. The competitive dynamic mirrors what is happening in the West, but the integration into a super app like WeChat gives Tencent a unique distribution advantage.

The launch comes as Chinese authorities have flagged potential security risks with AI agents, adding a layer of regulatory tension to the rollout. Still, the speed at which these integrations are shipping signals that the major players see AI agents as the next critical interface for consumer and enterprise users alike.
