SpaceX has officially completed its acquisition of AI coding startup Cursor. Cursor announced the finalized deal on its official blog.
SpaceX initially announced an agreement with Cursor in April. That deal included an option for SpaceX to buy the startup for $60 billion while the companies collaborated on technology development. The agreement also followed SpaceX acquiring xAI earlier in the year.
Both companies confirmed they were moving forward with the buyout two months after SpaceX transitioned into a public company. Cursor pointed directly to SpaceX computing infrastructure in its closing announcement. SpaceX rents out this computing capacity to various clients, including Google and Anthropic.
SpaceX is currently facing a lawsuit regarding pollution generated by the gas turbines powering its data center. Cursor stated that the acquisition grants the startup access to the largest GPU fleet globally.
Cursor noted that SpaceX is constructing the computational power necessary to scale intelligence beyond current limits. The startup added that its platform will serve as a location where that intelligence becomes useful.
