Replit no longer works with Anthropic, CEO and co-founder Amjad Masad said Thursday at TechCrunch Disrupt. A person familiar with the partnership disputed that account, leaving its current status unclear.

Replit lets users build and deploy apps in a browser. It has used Anthropic’s Claude models to run its AI coding platform. That partnership was said to have helped Replit grow its revenue significantly. Replit announced a partnership with OpenAI in August, with no indication at the time that its Anthropic relationship had ended.

Masad cited cost and performance

Masad said several factors drove the decision, including cost. “I think ChatGPT is better now,” he said. Replit uses an internal benchmark to assess measures such as performance and also publishes a public benchmark. Masad said Sol and Astra consistently perform better at building vibe-coded apps from scratch. He cited cost, partnership and performance in choosing what he called a better partner for now.

One person familiar with the Anthropic partnership, who asked not to be named, said it was still in place. Replit’s website, blog and social media posts show it was using Anthropic products as recently as a few weeks ago. A late September blog post named Claude Fable 5 and Claude Fable 5.1 as models running in Replit Agent’s production environment. Around the same time, a Replit product employee promoted Anthropic’s flagship Opus 5.5 model on X.

Enterprise brings in more revenue

Masad also discussed Replit’s growth. He said the company was not yet sharing annual recurring revenue figures. He estimated that enterprise contracts account for about 15% of revenue this year, up from about 2% last year. More than 50% of revenue comes from business customers, he said.

On AI safety, Masad said agents need a suitable environment to work well. He listed orchestration, error recovery, safety, security, sandboxing, networking, identity and authorization as parts of that environment.

TechCrunch has asked Replit to clarify the status of its Anthropic partnership and said it will update its report if the company responds.
