OpenAI is currently testing a new Writing Style feature for ChatGPT. This capability allows the artificial intelligence to learn a user writing voice by reviewing examples from connected applications.
The feature is accessible to a small group of users. An onboarding screen explains that ChatGPT will write in your voice by referencing examples from your connected apps.
Users can provide writing samples across three distinct categories. These categories include messaging, documents, and email.
OpenAI specifically lists Slack for messaging. For documents, the system supports Google Drive and Notion. Gmail handles the email category.
Configuration enables ChatGPT to reference natural writing styles across these services. The bot can then draft new content without requiring users to repeatedly explain preferred tones or paste examples into active conversations.
Competitor Anthropic previously launched a similar personalization tool called Styles. That feature allowed users to upload or paste writing samples to generate custom communication patterns.
OpenAI takes a different path with its experiment. The system allows ChatGPT to reference existing writing already stored inside connected services.
This approach gives ChatGPT a much larger set of real examples. It captures differences in how individuals write emails compared to shorter messages or longer documents.
OpenAI has confirmed the testing phase for Writing Style. A public release date remains unannounced.
