OpenAI revealed two major updates to its API platform. The release includes a new Decisions API that evaluates text, images, or both. This tool runs about ten times faster than the Responses API.
The Decisions API entered public beta
The Decisions API is currently in public beta. General availability is coming soon. Only the gpt-6-luna model is supported so far. Pricing is set at $0.10 per million input tokens, while output tokens are free.
This tool handles three specific response types. These include yes and no probabilities, picks from predefined categories, and scale based ratings. OpenAI states that use cases include damage detection in photos, automatic customer inquiry routing, and document classification.
Security features include zero-data retention. The tool also supports HIPAA-compliant use in the United States and Europe. Industry observers note this launch likely serves as OpenAI's response to the mini-trend of decision models that Jev started in mid-September.

OpenAI reduced its paid API tiers
OpenAI also restructured its paid API tiers. The company cut the total number of tiers from five down to three. These new tiers are Build, Launch, and Grow.
Organizations move up through these tiers automatically. This happens when their total credit purchases hit the next threshold. Monthly usage limits for these tiers now sit at $500, $5,000, and $200,000.
General availability for the Decisions API will follow the current public beta period.
