OpenAI announced major updates to Codex and its API at the DevDay 2026 developer conference in San Francisco. The expansion brings new security scanning tools, a Decisions API, and a high-speed subscription tier.
Codex now features reusable cloud environments designed to start tasks faster with shared configurations. Developers can use Codex on personal computers, phones, or the cloud across Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, Edu, and Healthcare plans. The updated Codex CLI supports voice control and a new agents view for delegation.
Security Cloud scans repositories to prepare fixes
The ChatGPT desktop app adds a code review view for changes spanning multiple projects. Codex Security Cloud scans entire repositories on demand or on a schedule to prepare fixes. Users of the cloud version also gain access to Daybreak Blue models without separate identity verification.
The Agents API now incorporates Computer Use to let agents operate software independently. AWS and OpenAI integrated core platform features into Bedrock Managed Agents for Amazon web resources. Meanwhile, the Decisions API uses GPT-6 Luna to handle classification and routing tasks.
Ultrafast tier speeds up token generation
OpenAI introduced the Ultrafast tier to speed up token generation in Codex and the API. GPT-6 Astra Ultrafast is available now for API users and subscribers to the new $500 Pro plan. OpenAI will roll out additional Ultrafast options and broad availability for the Decisions API in the coming days.
