Apple has officially announced the new MacBook Air powered by the M5 chip, marking a significant upgrade to what the company calls the world's most popular laptop. The M5 brings a faster CPU and a next-generation GPU with a Neural Accelerator built into each core, giving the MacBook Air enough muscle to handle demanding creative workflows and complex AI tasks. Apple is also doubling the base storage to 512GB with faster SSD technology, with configurations going up to 4TB. Connectivity gets a boost too. Apple's new N1 wireless chip brings Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 to the Air for the first time. The rest of the package remains familiar but polished: a Liquid Retina display, 12MP Center Stage camera, up to 18 hours of battery life, and two Thunderbolt 4 ports with support for dual external displays. Performance benchmarks paint an impressive picture. Apple claims up to 6.9x faster AI video enhancement compared to the M1 model, 6.5x faster 3D rendering with ray tracing in Blender, and up to 2x faster performance than competing Intel-based PC laptops on demanding tasks. Available in 13-inch and 15-inch models across four colors (sky blue, midnight, starlight, and silver), the new MacBook Air with M5 starts at 512GB and is positioned as the go-to machine for students, creative professionals, and business users alike. Pre-orders opened March 4, with availability starting March 11.
